What Does Dysleixa Intervention Look Like?
Dyslexia is far more common than you may think. One in five people is impacted with Dyslexia, a learning difference that makes reading particularly challenging. Our brains are not actually wired for reading, so learning to read can take a lot of explicit instruction and practice. In fact, those with Dyslexia may need up to 5 times more practice than a non-dyslexic peer.
Orton Gillingham is a method of intervention rooted in the brain science of reading, and proven to by effective and impactful for our dyslexic students. I have been trained in this approach, and use the knowledge and scope to plan my lessons. I have seen first hand how this approach works wonders for all students struggling to read, including those diagnosed with Dyslexia.
Through explicit instruction that moves from most simple to most complex, I address phonological awareness, phonics (decoding and encoding) and fluency to build up a student’s foundation.
